CABBAGETOWN
Cabbagetown, was once a working-class enclave, a harbor for people so poor they were said to grow cabbage on their front lawns, thus its nickname., Cabbagetown. Now a gracious neighbourhood full of renovated Victorian homes and beautiful parks, Cabbagetown is more than a neighbourhood, it’s a community, and its inhabitants wouldn’t have it any other way. Some of the city’s lushes parks are found here including turn-of-the-century Riverdale Farm (original Toronto Zoo site) and Allan Gardens, with its famed floral collection in a beautiful Victorian-style greenhouse.
In the shopping district on Parliament street, there are many one-of-a-kind shops and a large array of restaurants of all kinds.
Easily accessible via public transit are the Sherbourne bus and the Parliament streetcar connects passengers to stations on the Bloor-Danforth subway line. On the Yonge-University-Spadina line, there is the Wellesley bus and also the Carlton streetcar
