THE ANNEX

Heading a little bit north of the centre of the city, the Annex, at over a hundred years old, is not only the most eclectic of Toronto’s affluent neighbourhoods but also a very diverse community. Long-term residents blend with young families and academic professors and students alike, giving the Annex a lively vibe. Strolling along its quiet, tree-lined streets, you’ll notice unique architectural details, round arches and turrets and see stately homes, brownstones and a full urban mix of lofts and condos. In the heart of Toronto, the Annex comes alive at night when people from all over the city converge.  Meet your friends among its many restaurants, bars and nightclubs. And thanks to the proximity to both subway lines, from here you can easily get to just about anywhere in the city.

This neighbourhood is an outstanding presence in Toronto’s music and cultural scene thanks to its varied venues.

Location

One of the Annex's most famous residents was the wonderful urban thinker and writer Jane Jacobs who moved to the neighbourhood in 1968 from New York City. It's also home to Margaret Atwood and home to other notable Canadian writers.
