LIBERTY VILLAGE

With it’s converted lofts, chic town homes, and smart condos, Toronto’s Liberty Village is the quintessential urban neighbourhood. Local Trivia

Liberty Village, was formerly the site of Toronto’s Central Prison and the Andrew Mercer Reformatory for Women. It’s said that upon serving out a prison sentence, the freed prisoners would step out into the Village an experience their first taste of “Liberty”. Hence “Liberty Village”.

The ’80’s and ’90 Liberty Village played hosts to scores of artists, musicians and other creative industry in the sprawling warehouses no longer being used for the industrial operations.
